Weatherford may be named the Peach Capital of Texas, but that’s not the only thing the city is known for. Weatherford is also known for its commitment towards providing its youth with an amazing education and the know-how to succeed in the “real world”. The city is served by Weatherford Independent School District, a school system that has been rated “recognized” by the Texas Education Agency. The district is able to give its students the best possible education by, among other things, making very data-driven academic decisions and providing a comprehensive, relevant, and challenging curriculum. Because of this, Weatherford ISD students are inspired to imagine their potential for the future.
Weatherford ISD incorporates the Advanced Placement Program, administered by the College Board of New York, allowing students to participate in college level courses while receiving early college credits for their continuing education after high school.
The district also offers the Credit By Exam Program, for advanced students to attempt to “jump” one grade level by examination rather than taking the full course of studies. The student will then earn the credit with a passing score of at least 80% on the provided exam.
Besides being the top employer in the city, employing around 1,000 people, WISD is involved in many charitable events every year. Throughout the year, every campus conducts food drives for the Center of Hope, Manna, and the Senior Center. Each year, WISD administrators personally donate funds and volunteer their time to purchase a meal for the workers at the Weatherford Habitat for Humanity build. The district also supports the “Shop Weatherford First!” campaign by assisting local businesses.
Weatherford Independent School District is comprised of eleven campuses city-wide. There are seven elementary schools, three of which provide pre-kindergarten services.
These schools provide the education to students through the 6th grade: Austin Elementary, Crockett Elementary, Curtis Elementary, Ikard Elementary, Martin Elementary, Seguin Elementary, and Wright Elementary. There are two middle schools, Tison and Hall; a 9th Grade Center; and Weatherford High School, home of the Weatherford Roos.
