Murphy is a popular city in the southeastern portion of Collin County, Texas. The city encompasses five and a half square miles of land bordered by Plano, Richardson, Sachse, Wylie, and Parker, and is about 30 minutes east of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Located at the crossroads of Farm to Market Road and Murphy Road, the city was rather small until the 1970s, when the population started to increase due to the growing businesses in nearby Plano and Richardson. By 1990, the city had more than 1,500 residing within its borders.is the popular city of Murphy, Texas. Then in 1999, the President George Bush Turnpike completed construction.

After the new roadway opened up, it allowed Murphy to start booming with housing developments, making it the city that is there today. In 2010, the city was reported to have a population of 17,700 residents, a major increase from 2000’s census of only about 3,000.

Murphy is widely known for its down-home, country-living atmosphere – with a strong family-oriented community. There is an abundance of beautiful parks located throughout the city, offering residents many bike paths, playgrounds, basketball/volleyball courts, and pavilions for afternoon picnics and events.

In 2012, the newly-built Murphy Community Center proved to be a great success; as well as the Murphy Marketplace, a 200,000 square-foot shopping center filled with retail stores, restaurants, and other various businesses.

There are about a dozen different neighborhoods in the city, many of which are governed by the Homeowners Association. A few of the most popular communities include Rolling Ridge Estates, Maxwell Creek, Hunter’s Landing, and Stratford Crossing.

Students in Murphy are served by two public school districts, depending on the child’s location. There are three elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools in the area that belong to Plano Independent School District. While Wylie Independent School District has two elementary schools, a middle school, a junior high, and a high school in the area.

The city is also home to several private schools to choose from, including Oak Brook School (pre-kindergarten), Primrose School of Breckinridge Park (pre-kindergarten), Heritage Montessori Academy, and Fort Montessori Academy.
