Lavon is a city in Texas, located just eight miles north of Rockwall in the southeastern portion of Collin County. Founded in the mid-1850s, the city originally served as a commercial center for local farmers in the area. As the years went by, it was much more like a small town than a small city, all the way up to the end of the 20th century. As the new century was born, construction of several businesses and housing developments began to grow, which brought people looking for a fresh start in a “new” community. Once people discovered the potential that the city had to offer, the population quickly began to rise. In the last 15 years or so, the population has expanded from about 600 residents to more than 2,500. Because of the constant growth and construction, the city continues to grow and attract more and more people every year.
The city is almost centrally located between two popular lakes in Texas, Lake Lavon and Lake Ray Hubbard. As you can guess, both lakes are a major source of entertainment in the city, offering residents and visitors alike the opportunity to enjoy a little relaxing fun in the sun. Swimming, boating, skiing, fishing, and riding jetskis around the lakes, you really can’t ask for more.
Located along the shores of Lake Lavon, you will find a handful of parks and beaches. At just about every stop, there’s a ramp to unload the boat and set sail. On the eastern shore of the lake, Lakeland Park features a large pavilion for family and friends to get together. In addition to the pavilion, the park supplies its visitors with grills, electricity, beach volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and a wide open area for organized sports and games. If camping is your thing, the lake also has five campgrounds for you to sit around the fire and just enjoy nature. Don’t get us wrong, the lakes aren’t the only thing that Lavon has to offer. There are many different destinations for residents to find entertainment, all within minutes from their home. Between restaurants, shopping centers, parks and trails, coffee shops, live music venues, and golf courses, there is always something to do around here.
One of the city’s most popular residential areas is the award-winning Grand Heritage. The master-planned community offers residents an amazing list of amenities, including a unique resort-style pool and amenity center dubbed The Splash Zone. The $6 million aquatic center features two large pools with a water slide, splash park, wading pool, and a luxurious swim-up bar.
There are several other popular neighborhoods in the city. Some of these include Windmill Estates, Lakeridge Meadows, Hilltop Estates, and Lavon Ranchettes.
For students in the area, Lavon is served by two top-rated public school districts. Most children attend Community Independent School District, which also serves the nearby towns of Josephine and Copeville. Some parts of the city are served by Wylie Independent School District, a well-respected school system that continuously receives praise for its high test scores. Almost every school in the district has recently received one or more designated distinctions for their academic successes. In fact, the district produces several National Merit Scholarships every year.
