In 1958, three cities merged their school districts with the plans of becoming even more competitive and high performing. Today it is one of the top recognized school districts in the state of Texas. Based in Bedford, the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District serves the entire city of Bedford, most of Hurst and Euless, as well as smaller parts of North Richland Hills, Colleyville, Fort Worth, and Arlington. Students in the district consistently score higher than both state and regional averages in the STAAR tests every year. In fact, several campuses in the district have been named Blue Ribbon Schools in recent years. Many schools in the district offer “Edge” programs, which provide unique opportunities for students to develop skills beyond standard primary and secondary school curriculum.
“Edge” curriculum includes the International Baccalaureate diploma program, AP classes, Automotive Technician Training, and Core Knowledge-based classes. First grade students are offered Spanish Immersion, with a goal of complete fluency by the end of the sixth grade. While junior high students are offered Arabic, Hindi, and Mandarin Chinese language classes.
