The city of Denton is publicly served by Denton Independent School District. The district was founded in 1882 after a group of voters passed a $15,000 bond election to begin the construction of the city’s first public school. Since then, Denton ISD has continuously expanded to become one of the fastest-growing school districts in North Texas. The district, which stretches 180 square miles, serves several other cities and communities as well. These include:

The high schools in the district are as follows: Denton High, Guyer High, and Ryan High. The latter has been dubbed “The Home of Champions” after winning several regional, state, and national titles in various academic, athletic, technical, and fine arts competitions. All three high schools utilize the C. H. Collins Athletic Complex, a 12,000-seat sports stadium used primarily for football and soccer. In 2005, a Ryan High football game against Southlake Carroll High was nationally televised on Fox Sports in the stadium, then in 2007, the Complex was used for part of an Under Armour commercial series called “Click-Clack”.

There are also several alternative campuses in Denton Independent School District. The LaGrone Advanced Technology Complex serves high school students seeking professional/career training by offering pre-college courses with college credits. The other alternative campuses are Moore High School, Davis School DAEP, and Sparks Campus. In addition, Denton ISD has two Early Childhood schools: Gonzalez School for Young Children and Windle School for Young Children.
