Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District provides education to children from the cities of Carrollton and Farmers Branch, as well as portions of Coppell, Irving, Addison, and Dallas. Originally there were two separate districts for the two cities, until 1954 when the two districts merged. Since then, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD has grown immensely and serves more than 26,000 students in forty-three campuses. In 2011, the district was rated “recognized” by the Texas Education Agency and the following year it began implementing a “Limited Open Enrollment” plan, allowing students from outside its boundaries to apply for enrollment into the district. In 2014, students in the district tested higher than both the state and national average on their SAT and ACT exams.
Awards and distinctions are abundant at Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District. The district has a high graduation rate of 94%, while the state average is around 88%. In 2015, CFBISD graduates earned more than $29 million in scholarships. $1.3 million of that was earned by the Early College High School Program, which graduated 79 students that year. That same year, Dr. Bobby Burns won the Superintendent of the Year award. The district offers all of its students the International Baccalaureate Program, which is recognized by Universities all over the world. Students graduating with an IB Diploma are 21% more likely to be admitted into ten of the most prestigious universities.
