LIVIN’ IT UP IN THE ENTERTAINMENT CAPITAL

Nestled between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, about 20 minutes south of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, you’ll find Arlington. Originally known as a cotton-ginning and farming community when it was incorporated in 1884, it wasn’t until the General Motors assembly plant opened in 1954 that the city would start booming. Since then, the city’s population has skyrocketed! Today, Arlington boasts more than 380,000 residents, and is known by many as the Entertainment Capital of Texas.

Aside from its people, Arlington is home to many great things. On any given day, there’s something to see or do, right around the corner. The city is home to the Texas Rangers baseball team and the Dallas Cowboys football team. If you want to participate in the physical activity, Arlington has two gigantic amusement parks: Six Flags Over Texas, and Hurricane Harbor.

For boat lovers and anglers, Lake Arlington is the place to be. The almost 2,000-acre lake hosts several fishing competitions and offers its visitors two separate “paddling trails” for canoes and kayaks. Live music can be found with regular concerts and symphonies at the famous Arlington Music Hall.

Downtown Arlington features many restaurants, pubs, snack shacks, and retail destinations. While there, you can also visit The Arlington Museum of Art, the Planetarium, or Theatre Arlington, which, true to Texas’s reputation, is one of the largest community theaters in the nation. If you’re in Arlington on Independence Day, you can enjoy the Arlington 4th of July Parade, featuring floats from local schools, businesses, and organizations. One of the most recent visitor and resident hotspots in the city is the Arlington Highlands, a modern day shopping center with more than 20 restaurants and eateries, retail stores, several specialty shops, and entertainment.

With more than 70 neighborhoods, Arlington has home styles and neighborhood vibes for everyone. Some of the most popular include Dalworthington Gardens, Pantego, Bisbee, and Wimbledon.

The majority of the city is served by Arlington Independent School District, comprised of 75 campuses. Other public school districts serving smaller sections of Arlington include Kennedale ISDMansfield ISD, and Grand Prairie ISD. Arlington is also home to many private and charter schools, as well as a few colleges and universities.
